History:
For this class I chose to use a model I created based on the character Cecil Palmer from the podcast series Welcome to Night Vale. The podcast consist of a fake radio show in a desert town where weird and unnatural things happen, but for everybody in the town it's all a normal day. Cecil is the radio show host that narrates the podcast and tells us the stories as they develop. He is a very optimistic person that often goes out of his way to help and protect his tiny desert community as he starts to realize all the dangers that his town suffers on a daily basis. When hes not doing some hard hitting journalism, he spends his free time with his husband and family, and bowling on the weekends.
An interesting fact about Cecil's character design is that the creators of the show wanted people to envision Cecil however they wanted so they could always feel familiar, and maybe connect to his struggles more easily. The only description of him we ever hear is that he is "not too short or tall, not fat or too thin". Because of this there are a lot of people who have depicted him in many ways, so I decided to choose from my favorite ones and combine different aspects of them into the model I made.
In the end, this is the concept I ended up designing based on what I thought Cecil would look like and what the community thinks he looks like:
Some important things to keep in mind when thinking of materials should be:
He lives in the desert; even if he spends a lot of time indoors and is of a light complexion some of his clothes should show the wear and tear of sand and heat, and his skin should have some sunspots or sun damage.
Although he is older and it is starting to show, he still has a youthful face, so he shouldn't look dry and hard.
Tattoos should NOT look faded since they are supernatural in origin.
Hair goes from white to faded black.
He should have a few small scars here and there from all his dangerous encounters.
